Here’s a quick peek at a few custom mods to get the most out of an Impala 12g. This particular shotgun is used by our client in IPSC competitions here in South Australia. These mods were done just in time for the 2020 IPSC Rifle & Shotgun Nationals held October 29 – November 2 at Spear Creek, at the base of the Flinders Ranges, South Australia.
First was extending the capacity; a few extra rounds in the chamber (without a reload) makes a big difference, especially in comstock scoring stages. This magazine set up included the new barrel clamp and magazine nut made by Ignition Custom Engineering.
Our gunsmithing team cut some relief into the loading port and polished it out, to improve reloading.
Then we created a new oversize bolt release and safety. Being able to reach things and adjust them quickly is an important part of any competition set up. So we worked with the client to ensure these new features were ergonomic.
Finally the picatinny rail was removed to give the shotgun a streamlined feel.
Then we finished it in OD Green Cerakote.
Good luck and safe travels to all competitors and organisers. We look forward to seeing you on the range this weekend!
